Using Keyboard Shortcuts | Assign a Shortcut Key to a Command or Other Item

 

You can assign a shortcut key (a function key or key combination such as F5 or CTRL+A, that you use to carry out a menu command) to a command, macro, font, AutoText entry, style, or a commonly used symbol.

On the menu bar:

n         Select Tools.

n         Select Customize.

On the menu bar:

n         Open the Tools menu by pressing ALT+T.

n         Select Customize by pressing C.

In the Customize dialog box:

n         Select the Keyboard button.

In the Customize dialog box:

n         Select the Keyboard button by pressing ALT+K.

n         Move to the Save changes in box by pressing ALT+V.

In the Customize Keyboard dialog box, in the Save changes in box:

n         Select the current document name or template in which you want to save the shortcut key changes.

In the Customize Keyboard dialog box, in the Save changes in list:

n         Select the current document name or template in which you want to save the shortcut key changes by pressing the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW key.

n         Move to the Categories list by pressing ALT+C.

In the Categories list:

n         Select the category that contains the command or other item to which you want to assign a shortcut.

In the Categories list:

n         Select the category that contains the command or other item to which you want to assign a shortcut by pressing the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys

n         Move to the Commands list by pressing ALT+O.

In the Commands list:

n         Select the name of the command or other item to which you want to assign a shortcut.

Any shortcut keys that are currently assigned appear in the Current keys box.

In the Commands list:

n         Select the name of the command or other item to which you want to assign a shortcut by pressing the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW key.

Any shortcut keys that are currently assigned appear in the Current keys list.

To assign a shortcut key

In the Press new shortcut key box:

n         Press the shortcut key combination you want to assign.

Begin shortcut key combinations with CTRL, ALT, or a function key.

Note   If you reassign a key combination you can no longer use the combination for its original purpose (unless you restore the original settings).

n         Select Assign.

 

To remove a shortcut key

In the Current keys box:

n         Select the shortcut key you want to delete.

n         Select Remove.

Note   If you use a programmable keyboard, the key combination CTRL+ALT+F8 may be reserved for initiating keyboard programming.

 

To assign a shortcut key

n         Move to the Press new shortcut key box by pressing ALT+N.

n         Press the shortcut key combination you want to assign.

Begin shortcut key combinations with CTRL, ALT, or a function key.

n         Assign the key combination by pressing ENTER..

To remove a shortcut key

Select Close.

Press ESC twice.
